My kids absolutely LOVE corn dogs! And, I mean honestly – I crave them every now and then as well. But, there’s no better corn dog than a freshly fried one! Well, no more waiting for the local/state fair, amusement park trip or driving down to the nearest mall for some “Hot Dog On A Stick” (ok, seriously – are they even still around?) to get your fix. You can now make your own – at home – that are a million times better than the frozen boxed ones!

This really is a super easy homemade corn dogs recipe! Your kids will love you for it too – in fact, they can even step in and help you make the batter and dip them! (please use caution when frying – better yet, don’t let them anywhere near the frying process unless they are cautious teenagers!!)
When I first made this recipe, I really didn’t know what the consensus would be, I was actually worried I would mess these up – but my whole brood loved them. The best part is, they really loved the idea of carnival food for dinner. It was a “fun” dinner idea instead of the same ‘ol types of food we make. Kinda like when you make breakfast for dinner – it just makes that meal so much more exciting, lol.
Before we get to the recipe here are a few helpful tips/hints for ya!
You can EASILY change this recipe to make mini or regular sized corn dogs, by simply cutting them in half. I made a few mini’s, especially for Izzy’s little hands.
Don’t have buttermilk? Easily make some at home with this buttermilk recipe!
I like using my Hamilton Beach Fryer for this because I don’t need to worry about setting a thermometer and getting the temp just right. With a fryer, you can basically set it and forget it and they have indicators to tell you when your oil is at temperature. You can find the one I have HERE (it’s actually really cheap and works amazingly well)
You can use Popsicle sticks, skewers or lollipop sticks for your corn dogs. If you use skewers – make sure you trim off any pointed/sharp part of the skewer! If making mini corn dogs, you can cut the skewers in half or make them handheld mini’s and eliminate the use of any stick or skewer.
Use your favorite brand of hot dogs and pair with your favorite condiments! If you wanna make it really fun – you can buy french fry / hot dog baskets and liners as well as condiment bottles at the dollar store (as well as other themes items) and set up a carnival theme dinner! Don’t forget to give the kids “tickets” to purchase their fun meal!
